How her childhood influenced her stories

Agatha Christie's childhood experiences influenced the stories that she wrote later in life. She uses her hometown as a setting in some of her stories, she started writing at a very early age, and she experienced death as a young child.

Agatha Christie uses her hometown as the setting for some of her stories. She was born on September 15, 1890 in England. The name of the small town she was born in is Devon. This town appears in her novel And Then There Were None. In the book, she tells us that Soldier Island, the super suspicious island that serves as the terrifying setting of the story, is just off the coast of Devon. Clearly, Agatha Christie wasn't picking her settings randomly. Instead, she chose to use places that were very familiar to her, including her home town.

Agatha was home schooled by her parents. Her dad inspired her to read and her mom encouraged her to write. Agatha was always using her imagination to create unusual stories. I would argue that her writing career began when she was just five years old! She kept writing throughout her childhood and this set the foundation for her to grow into the brilliant murder mystery writer she became as an adult.

When she was 11 years old, her father died. This was very upsetting to the family and her mother became very sad. This is a very young age to experience such a big loss and I wonder if this traumatic experience influenced the themes that she writes about. Themes such as death, murder, and grief are very common in her work. All three play a big role in And Then There Were None.
